Welcome Back Johanna!

Many of you were lucky enough to meet Johanna last summer.
Johanna is back at Jump now after studying abroad for the past 6 months. Here is a little information about this amazing coach!

Recent Adventures: I was in Indonesia for a month traveling, before going on an exchange for school in Spain. Living in the south of Spain, in Granada, and taking a Spanish Language and Culture program at the University. A highlight from the experience was waking up one day and realizing I was starting to understand and speak spanish with some fluency!

Studying: I am studying Human Geography at the University of British Columbia.

What next/ Goals? – I want to finish my undergrad degree in the next year…and figure out the next step in that time :) I also hope to keep up my Spanish by joining the Spanish club at school!

Why Jump? – What first attracted me to Jump was the approachable, organized, and understanding staff, it’s a joy working here. Next, the fun/non-competitive atmosphere of the program, and the age groups of kids in the program, I felt were a great match for me as a gymnastics coach. Finally, the Jump approach of instilling the skills and passion for an active lifestyle in young children is one I couldn’t agree more with.

Coaching philosophy – I aim to develop social skills, pass on knowledge, and create fun! In my classes I strive to provide a learning environment in which each child feels safe and comfortable. I feel it’s important to recognize the personal achievements (both physical and social) of each child so they feel proud and good about themselves.

Mommyrexia!

As some of you know, I’m researching for an article on the emerging trend called “Mommyrexia,” or the idea that moms-to-be are becoming so concerned with how they’re going to bounce back after delivering (thanks to non-stop media coverage of celebs like Heidi Klum, Miranda Kerr & Bethanny Frankel) that they’re preventing themselves from gaining weight while pregnant by calorie counting and excessive exercise.

For the article, I’m keen to hear perspectives from Canadian experts (this is going to be in a Canadian newspaper) who provide services to these women (mommy makeover doctors, pre-natal fitness trainers, nutritionists) and the women themselves. Please note, however, that I’m absolutely NOT interested in demonizing women who are struggling with this, but rather want to illustrate what they’re dealing with to raise awareness and hopefully help turn the tide. I’ve got some great experts lined up already…but could definitely use a few more.

Soooo, could you please pass this email along to just about everyone you know (pregnant women who want to push back at the pressures on them, moms who have recently delivered, experts etc) so that people who might be interested in talking can reach out to me directly?

And just so you and your contacts know a little about my professional backgroud:   I’m an American freelance writer based in Vancouver, and my work has appeared in magazines such as Shape, Ms., Modern Bride, Health, Healing Lifestyles and Spas, Teen People, Elle Girl, Cosmo Girl, Mademoiselle, Pilates Style and many others.   I’m also the author of a teen body image guide called “All Made Up: A Girl’s Guide to Seeing Through Celebrity Hype and Celebrating Real Beauty.”  There’s more information on my website at www.AudreyBrashich.com

Are your children getting enough physical activity?

Only 10% of young children are getting enough daily exercise and this number is dropping!!!! And this is causing shorter life expectancy and obesity in our kids!

Here is short video that is really well put together

Check it out!!! And then sign your kids up for physical activities AND play with them!
